Jules Andreas Patteeuw was born in Zwevezele Belgium on December 2, 1895, the youngest of 7 children. He served as a cook in the army, and enjoyed the sport of wrestling.
Adrienne Marguerita Maria Vanwallehem was born in Lichtervelde Belgium on January 29, 1901, the youngest of 5 children.
They were married in Zwevezele on June 23, 1921. Three days later they emigrated to Canada on the ship Carmania. They landed at Pier 21 in Halifax, and travelled by train to Alberta. They were sponsored by cousins Leopold and Zoe Supeene.
Jules worked various jobs around Edmonton. He dug sewer lines for the Alberta hospital, worked at Swift's meat packing plant, and worked in a coal mine.
Eventually they were able to purchase a 300 acre farm. They grew potatoes, wheat, oats, and barley, and raised pigs, cows, and chickens.
Jules and Adrienne had 4 children - Achille, Marcel, Lucien, and Marie.
Unfortunately Adrienne developed liver cancer, and passed away in 1975.
Jules married Germaine Paepe in 1977 and moved off the farm. She suffered a stroke and he took care of her, until she died in 1987.
That same year a tornado blew through the farm and destroyed several buildings.
Son Achille suffered a brain aneurysm in 1987, and passed away in 1993.
Marcel died of esophageal cancer in 1983. Lucien died in infancy.
Marie is alive today and in a nursing home in Edmonton.
Jules was a very strong man physically. He survived skin cancer and stomach cancer. He did 100 pushups every day until well into old age.
He out-lived 2 wives and 3 children. Following complications after hip surgery Jules passed away in 1995 in his 100th. year.
The family farm was sold in 2000.
The legacy of Jules and Adrienne is 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren.
